Authentic. Traceable. Insanely Soft.
Where it All Began
The story of Bluey began in my father's shearing shed in Guyra, NSW. Standing among the dust and the scent of lanolin, I realised the Merino top I was wearing had been manufactured overseas. When I asked my father what happened to our wool once it left the farm, he didn't have an answer.
I soon discovered a frustrating industry reality: 86% of Australia's premium wool is shipped offshore, blended with inferior fibres, and sold back to us — its quality and story diluted by every mile. I knew there had to be a better way to honour the fibre and the growers who produce it.

The exact spot where the idea for Bluey Merino Tasmania was born — Guyra, NSW, Australia.
Building a Foundation of Trust
Since 2012, Bluey has been rewriting that narrative. We chose to stay small to ensure we never compromise on the purity of our fibre.
Why we invested $7,000 in a single document: In 2017, Bluey Merino took a stand on transparency that few small brands attempt. We invested $7,000 in a rigorous, independent audit to secure the 'Pure New Wool' certificate. This landmark investment was more than just a badge; it served as a technical "receipt" verifying our 100% wool purity and elite performance standards. While we now focus on our own proprietary traceability systems, this certification remains the historical proof that our integrity is built on a foundation of verified quality.

The 14.8 Micron Breakthrough
Our focus on excellence led to our greatest technical achievement: the Insanely Soft 14.8 Micron Range. While most "high-end" wool can still feel prickly to some, we use that last clip from our family farm that is so fine it is physically incapable of itching. We call it "Insanely Soft" because it offers a zero-itch, silk-like feel that is perfect even for the most sensitive skin.

Our New Home: Tasmania
In 2022, Bluey Merino relocated its headquarters to George Town, Tasmania. We chose the island for its rugged beauty and demanding climate — the ultimate testing ground for our performance gear. Today, every garment we produce is single-origin and 100% traceable to ethical Tasmanian and Australian farms that exclusively guarantee non-mulesed wool.
We remain fiercely committed to onshore quality, currently manufacturing 98% of our range in Australia with a goal of reaching 100%. This local supply chain allows us to support the skills of Australian makers while maintaining total transparency from farm to finish.
Keep It Real. Keep It Home.
The Source
A New Chapter in Tasmania
Life threw us an unexpected curveball when our family faced a tragic loss. For a while, Bluey went quiet. But not for long. We gathered ourselves—and Bluey—packed everything into a container and set off for Northern Tasmania: a land of fresh air, wild beauty, and a community rich in warmth and generosity. While we’re not considered locals yet (we’ve been told it can take years, if ever, to earn that title), we’ve completely fallen in love with the lifestyle. The crisp, cool climate is perfect—not just for us but for putting our Merino gear to the ultimate test.
